Getting help for drinking or drug use doesn’t always mean stepping away from your job or your family. Standard outpatient treatment is the most flexible of our levels of outpatient care, with sessions that usually meet one to two times a week so you can keep up with work, school and home while you recover.
At Freedom Recovery, outpatient rehab combines evidence-based treatment with a faith-based approach, at locations across Central Ohio.
Outpatient rehab is addiction treatment you attend while living at home. It’s one step on a continuum of care. A partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers the most structure, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) meets several days a week, and standard outpatient (OP) is the lightest time commitment.
When you reach out, our team will talk with you about your substance use, your health and your daily life, then recommend the level of care that fits. Many people start in a more structured program and step down to outpatient as they gain stability.
Your plan is built around your needs, and it often includes:
Outpatient treatment tends to work best when you have some stability and support outside of sessions. It may be a good fit if:
If you need more structure than one or two sessions a week can offer, our team may recommend IOP or PHP instead.
| Outpatient (OP) | Intensive outpatient (IOP) | |
|---|---|---|
| Sessions | Usually 1–2 a week | Usually 3–5 days a week |
| Time commitment | A few hours a week | Usually 9 or more hours a week |
| Who it tends to fit | People with stability and support who need ongoing care | People who need more structure while living at home |
| Common next step | Ongoing recovery support | Stepping down to outpatient |
There’s no single timeline. How long you stay in outpatient care depends on your progress, your goals and what’s happening in your life. For many people, outpatient is a longer-term stage of support after a more structured program, and your team will adjust your plan as you go.
Freedom Recovery is a Christian, faith-based outpatient program. Our Christ-centered clinical team pairs evidence-based treatment with spiritual support for people who want it. You don’t need to be Christian to attend.
Some of our staff are in recovery themselves, and that experience shapes how we walk alongside the people in our care.
We offer outpatient treatment at our locations in East and West Columbus, Dayton, Galion and Marysville. Telehealth may also be an option, depending on your needs. Our team can help you find the location that works best for you.
Freedom Recovery accepts Medicaid and many private insurance plans.
Coverage depends on your plan. You can verify your insurance for free, and our team will walk you through what’s covered before you start.
Standard outpatient usually meets one to two times a week, which typically adds up to a few hours. That’s less time than intensive outpatient, which usually meets three to five days a week. Your schedule depends on your treatment plan and may change as you make progress.
Yes, for most people. Outpatient treatment is designed to fit around work, school and family, with fewer sessions than other levels of care. If you need more support but still want to keep working, intensive outpatient with evening groups may be another option to talk through with our team.
The main difference is time and structure. Intensive outpatient usually meets three to five days a week, often for nine or more hours in total. Standard outpatient usually meets one to two times a week. Many people step down from intensive outpatient to outpatient as their recovery becomes more stable.
Ohio Medicaid plans often cover outpatient addiction treatment when it’s medically necessary. Freedom Recovery accepts several Ohio Medicaid plans, including CareSource, Buckeye, Molina and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Coverage depends on your plan, so our team can verify your benefits before you start.
It depends on what you’ve been using and how much. Some people need help with withdrawal before or during treatment. Our team will talk with you about your situation, and if medication support is right for you, it can be part of your care.
